Frequently asked questions

Q. Do I have to do an OH+S induction?

A. Yes. Under the Occupational Health and Safety Regulations 2017, it is required by law that any person conducting any kind of work activity in a professional workplace environment must first undergo an appropriate OH+S induction.

Q. Do I need to have a Workshop Pass to work at Space Tank?

A. Yes. Any person who wishes to conduct any kind of work activity at Space Tank must first sign the Workshop Pass Liability Waiver.

Q. Can an additional person who is not a Space Tank member assist my work practice?

A. Yes, but they must first undergo the OH+S induction, sign the Workshop Pass and pay the appropriate membership fee.

Q. Can I get casual access to the fabrication space and workshop?
A. Yes, see the membership page for our range of memberships.

Q. How much is it to rent a studio?
A. Rental amounts may fluctuate from time to time. Please contact us with this enquiry.

Q. Can I live at the studio?
A. No.

Q. Can I work through the night?

A. No. Working when tired and without anyone else available to help if an accident occurs, is a risk we will not accept.

 

Q. Can a studio be shared by more than one person?
A. Yes. Sharing is common and generally studio rent and Workshop Passes will be arranged on an individual basis.

 

Q. Does it cost more to share a studio?
A. There is a small additional surcharge for sharing a studio to cover overheads for the extra person. See Membership page.

 

Q. How much is a casual membership?
A. Please see Membership page. If you have further questions, please reach out us.

 

Q. Can I use the equipment and fabrication space even if I don’t have a studio?
A. Yes, the casual Flexi Pass and Tech Pass allows daily access to equipment. Please contact us for more information.

 

Q. Do I have to get a Workshop Pass when I lease a studio?
A. Yes. All tenants and casual members who wish to use the workshop and fabrication spaces must have a Workshop Pass.

 

Q. Does the Workshop Pass allow me to use all of the machinery and equipment?
A. Yes, but some CNC technology is charged out on a per/minute rate. Please see Membership page for more information

 

Q. Do you provide personal protective equipment (PPE)?
A. No we do not. PPE must be provided by members and workshop users.

 

Q. Can I bring and use my own tools?
A. Yes you can. No responsibility will be taken by Space Tank Studio for any equipment or tools that you bring to the studio and use at the studio.

 

Q. Do you have a tool library?
A. We do not provide any cordless, corded power tools or hand tools.

Q. Do you have storage facilities?
A. We have twenty three storage lock boxes of different sizes and racking shelves for longer materials.

 

Q. If I don’t have the skills or expertise to use the equipment, can I still use them?
A. No you may not. Ask us and we can help you with skills training.

 

Q. Do you run courses?
A. Yes we do. Please refer to the Events page or like our Facebook page for more information on events and courses at Space Tank Studio.

 

Q. Can I run a class or event at Space Tank Studio? What do I do?
A. Yes you can. Please contact us for more information.

 

Q. Are there any health and safety measures in place?
A. All members must complete the OH+S induction before commencing any kind of work activity.

 

Q. Do I need my own public liability insurance?
A. Members are advised to have their own public liability insurance. Please refer to NAVA and CRAFT VICTORIA.

 

Q. Can I commission Space Tank Studio to make something?
A. Yes you can. If we cannot help you, we will usually know someone in our community who can.

 

Q. Is there parking in the area?
A. There is ample car parking in front of the building and around the area.

 

Q. Can I park my bicycle in the studio?
A. Yes you can. Please ensure that your bicycle is parked in the loading bay or entrance where it cannot be damaged or cause injury.
