Every Year, Design 100 Melbourne gives out awards to the best designers in over fifty categories to accelerate transformation, celebrate courage and grow demand for design.
This year, Bastion Cycles won gold in the category ‘Product design – Sport – Active Life’ for their 3D printed titanium and carbon fibre racing bike.
This award celebrates creative and innovative design for either a component or overall product. Consideration given to aspects that relate to human usage, aesthetics, selection of components and materials, and the resolution of assembly, manufacturing and the overall function.
Since Benjamin Schultz took a studio at Space Tank and started tinkering away on his uber sexy machine, we’ve had many glimpses of super cool & ultra-slick components been tinkered on….. seriously want one when they're finished!
These babies are not for the light hearted. They ooze mojo and look damn fast. You can pick one up with your little finger without even thinking about it.
When Bastion Cycles needed to prototype the manufacturing of their light weight racing machine they chose Space Tank because we offer a full range of manufacturing equipment at a very affordable rate. We are the perfect product development incubator for companies who need to take their concept from blue prints and components to finished working model.
Bastion’s 3D printed Titanium and Carbon Fibre frame is a genuine world first. 3D printing allows them to fuse highly complex shapes from Titanium that in turn enables them to engineer a very special bike frame by combining the best features of both materials to achieve the rider’s holy grail – a frame that blends the torsional stiffness and performance of a Carbon Fibre frame with the ride comfort of a Titanium frame.
We are incredibly proud to have the Bastion Cycles team working out of Space Tank and their amazing innovative bike truly deserves the gold award in Sport Active Life product design. Well done guys!
